Short Week

It’s gonna be a short week, this week is. Well, short for work – long for play. The 4th of July holiday falls on Wednesday, so I’ll be working Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Laura and I and our friends the Gregorys will venture downtown for the celebration in DC. We’ll be staying in a hotel in Arlington so we don’t have to fight the crowds too much.

We’ll be taking pictures of all that we can, of course, but the celebration in the capitol is one we’ve never yet seen even though we’ve lived here through two already.

After that, we’ll sight-see some more downtown and then head back to Reston where more packing will commence. Packing. Yuck.

Twos All The Way Down

I hit a “big” number on the odometer of my motorcycle yesterday: 22222. Yep, all 2s. It means the same frontwards or backwards and no matter how you shuffle it, it always comes up 22222.

Normally, that’s not an important number – in fact, it’s not really now. It just looks cool. Except for one thing: by the time I got home, it said 22224. Now THAT’S not cool.

What is important, is that I’ve had my motorcycle almost two years and I’ve put more mileage on it already than most motorcyclists put on their bike in 10 or more years. Of course, lately I’ve been only riding to the local Microsoft office which is less than two miles away… not a big mileage run, but it’ll do I suppose…

Updated Pro Site

I’ve been working this weekend on my professional site. I have been utilizing my Smugmug professionally hosted site for that purpose. I currently host http://www.jeffphillips.net at home, but it will eventually go away and I will have a dedicated pro site at http://prints.jeffphillips.net (but it will have the ‘old’ www name when I’m done).

Let me know what you think about the site so far: http://prints.jeffphillips.net.

UPDATE: the new professional site is http://www.phillipsphotographik.com.

Skyline Drive Trip Photos

Two weeks ago, the church photography club went on a road trip to Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. We drive maybe 40 miles in and found a trail called Dark Hollow which we proceeded down. Having hiked in the Glacier National Park earlier in the month, the hike was not very difficult at all. We took many picture stops along the way, and each of us took over a hundred pictures. We took many shots of the waterfalls along the way, as well as each other.

We should probably keep doing this so that I can get in better shape since I want to hike deep into the wild to get the shots I want.

Work, Work, Work

Now that my Dad is back home in Houston, I’ve gone back to work again. I thought I would be getting around to processing and posting all the backlog of pictures I have – especially those of Glacier National Park, but work seems to suck the time out of my day. Not that I mind too much: I love my job, you know.

I just have to get used to getting up early again…

Oh, Hail

Sitting in the office today, I was roused out of my LCD-induced stupor by the sound of what seemed like a freight train running through the office building. It turned out that out of the what 2 minutes before was a clear, blue sky came falling 3/4 inch balls of ice: Hail.

Yes, hail. Hail in June, no less.

I guess that I’m not riding my bike home until it clears up a little outside. That could hurt.
